EMERGENCY ROOM

Hannah got her finger caught in a door at Grandma's house. She screamed quite a bit, but when we saw blood we looked a little closer and decided it would be better to take her to the dr. I was on hold with the Dr. office until we were walking in the door. When we pulled the gauze away her finger looked really bad. The pediatrician decided it was out of his league, so he sent us over to the ER at Davis Hospital.
We noticed that talking to her kept her mind off of the pain in her finger, so we did our best to keep the conversation going. We found out that her favorite color is indeed blue. We also learned that Ice Cream comes in medicine flavor. Hannah was given five or six stickers at the ER, she chose her favorite, and pocketed the rest to take back to Grandma's house and share with everyone. She enjoyed a hail of stickers, and suckers (all in blue).
Then they took her into the room. She did very well with the x-rays. She did not want to lay her hand flat, but when asked to by the tech she did. She was very interested in the x-ray machine, the idea of bone pictures, and the heavy lead blanket they gave her.
She was really enjoying all of the personal attention she was getting from Mommy, Daddy, and about a dozen strangers. However, when they brought in a bed sheet and wrapped her up "burrito" style, she realized that it was time to be angry. She really screamed during the repeated injections they gave her right into the wound, and the end of her finger. She cried plenty, but for the most part, she was very brave. She also had a very distinctive cry, it sounded something like ow-wow-wow-wow-wow. When they were all done they bandaged her up and about that time Uncle Scott and Uncle Brent showed up to see how she was doing. Hannah made a bee-line for the door before we called her back. When finally told she could go, she wasted no time.

Here Hannah poses with her wound proudly displayed (notice the color of the tape) blue was definitely today's color. Final tally: Hairline fracture on tip of last finger bone, and 5 stitches.

Oh- poor thing! It is amazing how brave and resilient children can be. I am glad it wasn't any more serious than it was.
